How Xypex Works
Xypex Crystalline Technology provides advanced waterproofing and chemical protection for concrete through its distinctive reactive mechanism.
The active chemical compounds in Xypex interact with the by-products of cement hydration, forming a non-soluble crystalline structure. This crystalline formation effectively fills and seals the pores and capillary channels within the concrete, rendering it impermeable to water and other liquids while enhancing its resistance to chemical degradation.
To achieve its crystalline waterproofing effect, Xypex integrates seamlessly into the concrete matrix. It capitalizes on concrete’s inherent properties—namely its porosity (via the capillary tract system) and chemical composition. Through diffusion, Xypex’s reactive agents utilize water as a medium to penetrate and navigate the concrete’s capillary network. This initiates a chemical reaction between Xypex, moisture, and the natural by-products of cement hydration, such as calcium hydroxide, mineral salts, oxides, and unhydrated or partially hydrated cement particles.
This reaction culminates in the formation of a crystalline structure that permanently obstructs the pores and capillary channels. As a result, the concrete’s pore network becomes discontinuous, preventing the ingress of water and other liquids from any direction. Furthermore, the Xypex crystalline process remains dormant until reactivated by the presence of water, ensuring long-term protection and durability.
